Do you want a slimmer face? Who doesn’t, right? After all, no one wants to go through life looking like a manatee. But you might not know how to get your face looking sharp and angular like a supermodel. That’s what this guide is for! We’re going to talk about:
- Foods you should eat to drop your BMI and make your face look thinner
- Tips and strategies you can use to look better all over
- How to dress and style to make your face look thin
Let’s get started on transforming your face into a new, thinner version!
1. Training and exercise
It should go without saying that you can have a slimmer face by losing weight overall. And the best way you can do this is with training and exercise. It’s recommended that adults get 150 minutes of moderate exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week.
If you’ve got an extra 30 minutes or so each day, you can choose to do moderate exercise like walking, swimming or even doing some yardwork. If you want to push yourself a little harder, you can do 75 minutes each week of running or doing aerobics.
Generally speaking, when you do moderate exercise your heart rate will be at around 50-70% of maximum. Vigorous exercise will be between 70-85% of max. You can find your maximum heart rate very simply – just subtract your age from 220. So if you’re 40 years old, your max heart rate is 180, it’s as simple as that!
You should always talk to your doctor before you begin an exercise routine. Increased heart rate can be dangerous if you have a heart or other condition. Seniors may need less exercise than others, and many people with joint or bone problems should consider low impact exercise like swimming.
As you lose weight, you’ll notice that your face will get slimmer and thinner. Your bone structure will be more defined, and you’ll be very happy with the changes you see in the mirror!
2. Get a slimmer face with food and diet
You’re not going to have a lot of success with your weight loss and with getting a slimmer face if you’re not eating the right foods. You don’t necessarily have to be a die-hard calorie counter to lose weight, but a mindfulness of what you’re eating is a fabulous way to drop some pounds and reach your ideal BMI.
In very general terms, you will lose weight if you consume fewer calories each day than you burn. That means exercise, kids! You’ve got to get up off the couch and move your body! As we mentioned, you’ve got options as to whether you want to push your body or simply walk a few miles. But it’s important that you burn those calories.
So, what should you eat? Well, a balanced diet of whole, unprocessed foods is usually best. You don’t have to follow any of the “fad” diets like gluten-free or keto. You should, however, start to cut out your refined sugars and processed carbohydrates. A few things you should begin to eliminate include:
- Fruit juice
- White bread
- Processed pasta (whole grain is fine)
- Sugary snacks
- Snacks and foods high in sodium
This, of course, is just a sampling of the things that you can begin removing from your daily routine. Think about all the calories you’re putting into your body – including the creamer in your coffee! These things count!
Foods you should add to your diet for a slimmer face
Losing weight and getting a slimmer face isn’t just about cutting foods out of your diet. You’ll also want to be sure you add the right foods to your daily menu so that you can lose weight in a healthy way, and can develop great habits that will last a lifetime.
Lean meats are always a good bet. Chicken, fish and turkey are great options for weight loss, and they’ll also make your hair and nails look great, and keep your muscles strong. If you choose to be a vegetarian, eggs and foods like lentils and nuts are good protein options.
Don’t cut carbs out of your diet! You’re going to need that energy, and carbohydrates are essential to health. You can get plenty of carbs from:
- Whole grain breads and pastas
- Sweet potatoes
- Dairy products like milk and cottage cheese
- Unbuttered popcorn
Finally, you’ll need to be sure you’re getting plenty of fats. There are “good” fats and fats you should limit, so stick with foods like:
- Olives and olive oil
- Fish like salmon
- Chia seeds
Fats are critical to your brain and joint health, and they help your body absorb the nutrients in the other foods you eat. If you don’t feel like you’re getting enough healthy fats, talk to your doctor about the supplements you can take.
3. Supplements for a slimmer face
Speaking of supplements, you can absolutely add weight loss supplements to your daily routine. There are three main types of supplements:
- Appetite suppressants
- Fat burners
- Fat blockers
It’s up to you and your lifestyle which you take, and it’s always recommended that you talk to a physician before you begin taking any supplement. Some may interfere with medications you take, or with medical conditions you have.
There are natural supplements and “chemical” ones, so it’s your choice which you use. Natural supplements may include ingredients such as:
- Green tea
- Black pepper
- Cayenne pepper
As far as the weight loss pills that are “chemical,” you’ll have to talk to your doctor about the specific ingredients in them.
Whichever you choose, you’re just about guaranteed a slimmer face when you use weight loss supplements. Use them the right way, and in concert with a healthy diet and exercise routine.
Pre- and Post Workout Supplements
One thing that’s worth mentioning here is that you should most likely stay away from protein shakes. Those things are so high in sugar that you’re probably going to be doing more harm than good. In fact, there are protein shakes out there that contain as many as 600 calories per shake. That’s just ridiculous!
Weightlifters and others swear by these drinks, but in our opinion no one needs them. You’d do better to get your calories through actual food that’s going to nourish your body. Stay away from the sugary protein shakes and opt for food that real people eat!
Now, since you’re working out (right?) it may benefit you to take a pre- or post-workout supplement. You’ll obviously want to talk to your physician before you take any supplement at all, as well as before you begin an exercise routine.
Popular pre- and post-workout supplements for a slimmer face include:
It’s not always necessary that you take a pre- or post-workout supplement, but some supplements may help your muscles recover from exercise. These supplements may also give you more energy, making your next workout that much more effective.
4. More tips and strategies for a slimmer face
So you’re already working out, eating right and taking supplements. Of course, losing weight and getting a slimmer face is going to take time! You didn’t gain weight overnight, and it’s not going to melt away over a week either.
So how can you make your face look thinner in the meantime? Here are a few tips and tricks to help you look your best as you’re dropping the pounds.
Makeup can be a miracle worker when you use it the right way. Even men can use BB cream and contour cream or powder. Here are a few ways men and women can use makeup to get the appearance of a slimmer face:
- Use primer and concealer to even out your complexion
- Use a contour cream or powder to highlight your cheekbones and make your nose look thinner
- Using that same cream or powder, highlight your chin to make it appear slimmer
- Apply a bit of blush to the “apples” of your cheeks – this will also highlight your cheekbones
- Make your eyes pop with mascara, shadow, liner and a brow pencil – a cateye look works great
- Use a neutral lipstick or gloss – skip the reds and darker colors
Practice applying your makeup, or watch some tutorials on YouTube to get a hang of how to get a slimmer face with makeup – it’s not tricky once you get the hang of it!
Get a Botox treatment
We wouldn’t necessarily choose this option for ourselves, but you do you. You can choose to have a Botox treatment in your face to get a thinner look. Do your research and find a clinician who’s licensed in your area and who’s experienced with Botox.
When you’ve found a professional you trust, ask him or her which specific injections will help give you a slimmer face. Generally there are treatments that will be injected along your jawline every three months or so.
Before you get a Botox treatment, familiarize yourself with the risks. You may experience:
- Flu-like symptoms
- Facial drooping
- Spread of the toxin to other parts of your body (this is not a good thing)
Weigh your options carefully before you book your Botox appointment – it’s not right for everybody.
While we’re talking about extremes, you could technically consider plastic surgery for a slimmer face. Remember that this is a permanent thing, so you’d better make darn sure you’re ready to alter your appearance.
There are some things you should know before you get plastic surgery. First of all, and as you probably realize, plastic surgery doesn’t always turn out the way you think it will. You’ve seen the horror stories on the internet and television. Just be prepared that that could be you.
Secondly, realize that if you’re trying to lose weight, your plastic surgery may not look the same now as it will when you reach your final weight. It’s kind of like getting a tattoo – if your body changes shape, your tattoo will too. In the same way, your plastic surgery look may not “match” your body once your weight is lost.
Finally, plastic surgery is expensive! If you can swing the huge price tag, go for it. For the rest of us, it may mean some serious financing that you’ll be paying off for a very long time. That’s a real bummer if you’re not actually happy with the way your surgery turned out.
The decision whether you get plastic surgery is yours to make. We highly recommend you don’t take the decision lightly, though. Give it some time and think about it before you commit.
Change your hair
Depending on your personal preferences, you may want to consider changing your hairstyle to suit your face shape. Cuts and styles that look good on round faces include:
- Straight bobs
- Gentle curls (avoid tight curls if possible)
- A center part
- A wavy bob
- A half ponytail or other “half-do”
You can always speak with your stylist – whether you’re a man or a woman – to figure out which hairstyle will best suit the shape of your face. A good stylist will be trained on how to give you a slimmer face – and the only thing going under the knife is your hair!
Choose your clothes and accessories wisely
This tip is going to be different for everyone, but there are some general rules you should follow to get the appearance of a slimmer face. They’re really simple to follow, you’ll just have to be mindful when you get dressed in the morning.
- Avoid turtlenecks and high collared shirts
- Try a hat with a narrow brim and a tall crown
- Wear dangly earrings that feature sharp angles
- Choose darker colors instead of bright ones
You can give yourself the appearance of a slimmer face, you can lose weight! However, there are other methods you can use, and the tips and tricks in this guide will help you stay looking your best all the time.
